Work, Employment, Society: Is It All a Scam?

Work, Employment, Society... Doesn't it just seems like a scam? Look how far technology has come. We have computers that can do just about anything. Robots can assemble vehicles, computers can do billions of calculations a second easily, and we have the technology available to create societies where people do not need a 9-5 bore-fest of a job.

I saw a documentary recently about a different kind of society, where people did not slave away at pointless jobs for a majority of their lives. I think it's certainly possible. There is no reason people can't at the very least have more options with their employment. Does society really expect a person to live on their meager salary with costs today? Healthcare alone is staggering. Taxes are ridiculous, and prices on most services keep people at bay until they absolutely need them.

The biggest problem with this world is that we refuse to move forward.. We are creatures of habit and do the same stupid things over and over.. Just look at our diets. Every time I go out to eat 9 out of 10 places serve food that's so unhealthy I might as well start digging my own grave. Look at our reluctance to move forward with cleaner energies or more efficient forms of transportation such as high speed rails. It's very frustrating.

It makes you wonder if our society will ever move forward, or whether we will stay stubborn until the very end. Relationships are another area that our society holds back.. "Expectations" are so important... getting married, having kids.. But people don't use their heads! Who really thinks about the future of their kids or what life is going to be like? Who plans ahead? Not many people it seems.. Every time I go into a diner I meet a waitress who has 5+ kids and somehow I don't think she planned the whole thing out very well. People are so obsessed with what's expected of them that they forget to think for themselves!

Someday things will have to change, but will it be too late? I don't think people are happy with the current society situation, at least here in the US. We're so obsessed with all the wrong things, and it's sad. Something is very wrong with the world today.. Was it this way 50 years ago? 100? I have no idea, but I think the world has lost its mind.
